Mark 14:1-11
i wonder how weird that must have looked..a woman approaching Jesus with her most precious perfume, pouring it all over Jesus. my initial reaction would be like those onlookers too..i'd rebuke her for wasting all that expensive oil instead of selling it. it's not that they rebuked her in the wrong mindset, they thought that selling it for money to donate to the poor was a better idea. but Jesus does something surprising and rebukes those who rebuked her. He defends her and her action by saying that even her what then seemed foolish act is still beautiful because Jesus wouldn't be there for much longer.
it's like Jesus knew everything back then too. well obviously, i knew that. but even back then, He was always preaching about the here and now. we're always waiting to do something good, or what seems good to us. but scripture showed how Jesus always acted now, performed miracles on the spot. He never waited until the time was perfect, because there was/is never a perfect time.
our time in this life is short. i wanna be like the woman at bethany who didn't hold back to give Jesus everything she had. like the widow, even though we don't have much, the fact that we surrender everything to Him is beautiful. there is beauty in the broken.
