Isaiah 4, 5:1-7

it's a metaphor. God's vineyard is supposed to represent mankind. A man spends so much time tending to and caring for his vineyard, expecting it to grow sweet grapes so that he can brew good wine from it. but instead, the grapes are bitter. He says, "what more could i have done for my vineyard that i have not already done?" He is so disappointed, and that disappointment turns to anger. because the next thing he says is how he's going to destroy it. he's going to torture the vineyard, let it go through hell because it didn't do what it was supposed to.

this makes God sound tyrannical and so sadistic. but in reality, He's not. and we all know that. He expected us to be one way, the good righteous way, but what he got were bad and rotten. imagine planting a garden, investing your money time and soul into it, but only to find weeds. wouldn't you be overrun with disappointment? lucky for us, God is good. Like he did with Noah and the ark, He's going to bring us down only to build us up stronger and better than we were.
