v1. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.
- Israel was being this bad, it was like a wager to see if there actually would be one righteous person in the city. Even the title of this section of the book is called "Not One Is Upright"..
v10. Go through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not destroy them completely. Strip off her branches, for these people do not belong to the LORD.
- God doesn't completely destroy them. He cuts off whatever that does not produce fruit. We should do the same. Cut off any infected, rotten, bad parts because God doesn't create bad. He only created good because He is love.
v23. But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts; they have turned aside and gone away.
- Having a stubborn heart is dangerous, because it makes it easy to ignore guilt and feelings of shame. And those, to some extent, helps us really see how sinful we are and how much we are in need of God's love and grace to come back. It's so amazing how bad we are but how much God still wants to love us.
v25. Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good.
- Sins deprives us of good...that's because we can't be good AND bad at the same time.
