18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind.
Paul warns the Colossians to beware of people cheating God and His people by preaching false philosophy and showing false humility. We can even see this in churches today, even at home, people trying to put on this humble face but overdoing it- false humility. People may be able to buy it, but God and the Holy Spirit can see right through us when we do that.
19 They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.
..because doing all that will be like growing in ligaments and sinews, like tendons and not bones. those are all easily flimsy and flexible, not hard and grounded like how bones are. To grow in the word is like growing strong bones; preaching false worldly philosophies is like nurturing fake bones. Good analogy, Paul.
21 “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22 These rules, which have to do with things that are all destined to perish with use, are based on merely human commands and teachings. 23 Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence.
There's this link back to genesis, when Adam & Eve took a bite of that forbidden fruit. God specifically told them like in verse 21, to "Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!" God knew that just one bite of that fruit will make them come back for more...likewise, today when one person takes a bite out of sin, that person's heart will try going back for more even though it'll eventually kill them. Like smokers being addicted to nicotine. There's that harsh treatment of the body even though it's hidden by a false glorious appearance.
