Psalm 18:3-36

As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God? It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.

This is part of David's song of praise to the Lord after he delivers him from his enemies. To me, this part in his psalms sounds so peaceful, like David finally found some peace in his heart after all the troubles he's been through. Even just a couple psalms before, in Psalm 13, David's feeling unheard, just praying and crying out his heart to God, but at the end he's still glorifying in God's grace. Then in this psalm, after he's been delivered from his enemies, David's just in this state of tranquility. He revels in how perfect God is by painting this picture of God being our shield. None who goes against God and his people can break through that holy shield. No matter what David goes through, he never fails to put his trust in the Lord. He faces his enemies head on but not by his own power, but by God's majesty.
