But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.) And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you have been made right with God. - Romans 8:9
There's some going back-and-forth here...i thought humans were born into sin. After the fall of Adam & Eve, humans were all condemned to sin after them. People are innately bad..intrinsically evil...that also supports the theory that every person has a desire to do something crazy but is suppressed by our ego (Freud's id, ego, and superego....the ego's the rational part that makes you feel guilty). but Jeremiah's saying something completely different here, and i like that.
Dual nature of the human spirit...we are sinful because of the great fall of mankind, but at the same time God wants to be with us, so He sends us the Holy Spirit to keep us holy and separate from the sinners who are really doomed. There's hope and reason to keep loving God and reading the word. because He loved/loves us enough to fish us from being lifeless souls.
