one thing that i'm particularly excited for this retreat tomorrow is for us as a church to be re-connected and re-clothed with the word. our clothes have been so weathered down by our sins, we need serious tailoring done. i'm excited for our speaker, i'm excited for the small group times, and i'm excited that maybe we'll feel like a church once again, one united under Christ. we've been so badly beaten and left out to die, and we're nothing more than an empty church building. we have no defense against Satan and the enemies anymore.
like how Paul told the Ephesians to armor themselves in the truth of God's words, we need to do the same. i know the speaker is going to have a seminar about "How to read the Bible"- which i'm pretty excited for. "Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. [...] Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." v. 14-17.
I think many of us have forgotten how to read the bible, which is a problem because if we don't keep up with keeping up with the Word, we lose sight of the truth, and since we're humans we are prone to fall again & again & again. we need to make it so that we are all wearing the full armor of the gospel, of what Christ did for us. i pray that we would all come together before God, crying out to rain down on our parched and dry fields.
